The Bunny Trail is a true story told through the journals of Bastian Aceti, a Florentine doctor who spent much of his childhood hidden from the world.

At thirteen, he met Bunny, a four-year-old American girl who was completely unafraid of him. What began as an unlikely friendship became a bond that would span more than four decades, two continents, and an entire lifetime.

why we are sharing PAPA'S journals

Papa wrote his journals later in life, not as a record for us, his family, but for himself, as he suffered from early onset dementia.

When he was alert and truly with us, he wrote as much as he could, often staying up late into the night to finish stories that were fresh in his mind.

This is the reason why we have his journals today. They were created out of his need to remember, but we absolutely love them and feel that they were destined to be shared.

If even one person who has ever felt different or misunderstood finds comfort and feels a little less alone after reading Papa’s journals, then sharing them will have been worth it.

Papa's method for writing his journal entries was to first create a playlist of his life and then write. Although he loved all kinds of music, especially opera, Depeche Mode was his favorite band. We thought you might enjoy listening to the songs he chose to accompany his words.

Bastian was my Papa, and he spent so much of his life trying to understand where he belonged.

Papa was the author of the journals that eventually became The Bunny Trail series, a true story about his relationship with his best friend who could see the beauty within him, even when he couldn't.

Bastian's journals offer an intimate look into his struggles with identity, belonging, courage, and the complicated process of becoming comfortable with who he truly was.
